Hoping Nana Comes Home Soon!

The kids have all missed going to Nana’s house like usual this week.  They have been very worried about her in the hospital.  The day after her surgery, they spent a little while making her some “Get Well” posters to go in her hospital room.

We’re hoping that one day soon she be back to her old self and ready to do this again:

You know dinner prep is going well…

when your daughter calls out from the living room – “Mom, what is that beautiful smell?”

Our little crazy boy…

IMG_0057

Kids can be so funny.  Seriously they come up with some of the craziest stuff.  Like this morning, Layton told that if I didn’t get out of bed and get his drinky (aka chocolate milk) that the boogie man was going to get me.

Or a couple of nights ago, Nathan was giving Layton one of his specialty hugs.  He does high hugs, Lightning McQueen hugs, tickle hugs, Mater Hugs, and all kinds of other ones that he and Layton have come up with.  That night Layton asked for a Pirate hug.  Then we asked how do you give a Pirate Hug.  He responded, “With Pirate Attitude”.  Yep, he’s got attitude all right.

And between all the craziness he can be ridiculously sweet.  Like yesterday when he woke up from his nap and started asking for Daddy and then he wanted me to call Daddy and tell him to come home.   That may not sound like much to some people, but it was pretty much a miracle to me and Nathan.  He is a momma’s boy through and through and so for him to ask for Daddy is like one of the sweetest things he’s ever said about Nathan.

Sometimes they DON’T want the rain to go away….

like when I let them do this:

IMG_9527IMG_9528IMG_9529IMG_9440IMG_9512IMG_9445IMG_9442IMG_9437IMG_9453IMG_9466IMG_9510IMG_9475IMG_9456IMG_9548IMG_9553IMG_9556IMG_9523

It is becoming quite a tradition!  They love it and I love watching them do it.  To me – it is the epitome of what childhood is all about.

It is ON like Donkey Kong

scale

At Nathan’s office they are doing a health challenge starting tomorrow to see who can be the biggest loser.  Everyone will put in $10 and whichever woman and man loses the highest percentage of body weight in the next 8 weeks will split the pot.  But, to make it nice for all of the participants, anyone who loses 5% or more body weight will win a day off of work.  Sweet, right?  So Nathan has decided to enter to see if he can get a day off of work.

And so since right now I am trying to exercise to get in shape for our vacation in September, which is only 7 weeks away (YAY!!!!), I thought it might be fun for the two of us to have a little competition of our own.  Between the two of us we’ll see who can lose 5% of body weight first.  We haven’t decided on a prize yet.  Any ideas?  I was thinking that maybe the loser would have to give the winner a full body massage.  Which is totally something I could use right now.  Holy cow I’m out of shape.  I’ve been exercising daily for about a week now and right this second I am SOOOOO sore.  It even hurts to type.

So sweetie – get ready to get your butt kicked.  It is so ON!

Sunflower Seeds

Remember Dallin’s huge sunflowers?  Well, the sunflower seeds finally matured and so we decided to harvest them.

IMG_9562

I still can’t get over how big these things got.

IMG_9576

They really were enormous and very very heavy!

IMG_9582

This huge pile of seeds was from only FOUR sunflowers.  Crazy!

After harvesting them, I decided to try soaking them in salt and then roasting them in the oven.  They came out ok, but not as good as the ones you buy at the store.  I think I should have used DOUBLE the amount of salt that the recipe I had called for.  But, it was a good learning experience and now I know for next year!

It All Ended

Harry_Potter_and_the_Deathly_Hallows_Part_2-535x792

For us it ended on Saturday afternoon at 5:25 p.m.  The last installment of our beloved Harry Potter movie franchise.  As almost any die hard book reader would say – “The book was better”.  But that is the clichéd truth for any book made into a movie.  And while it does still ring true in this case – I LOVED the movie.  I’ve loved all of the Harry Potter movies.  But this one in particular was excellent.  By far the best acting and script that I’ve seen for this series.  The portrayal of Snape’s memories was particularly well done and I’ll admit that I balled all the way through them.  Even Nathan shed a tear or two.  It was so poignant and beautiful.

I’m a little sad to see “it all end”, but all good things must come to a conclusion.  And like any really good book, I know I’ll be revisiting the world of Harry Potter many times in the future.  I am looking forward to one day sharing that world with my children and enjoying it yet again through their eyes.  The struggle for good to triumph over evil is a timeless theme that I don’t think I’ll ever not enjoy reading about.  Now I’m just looking for the next great series to come along!

And like all great fantasy worlds, there is always a little humor surrounding the devotedness of its fans.  I thought this video was awesome!

A Cutie Pie

At Dallin’s party, I walked up to Nathan and found him doing this:

He then turned Reese towards me and asked – see don’t you want another one?

IMG_9354IMG_9359IMG_9360IMG_9363IMG_9365-retroIMG_9367

I think if I could be guaranteed to have one as happy and sweet as she is, I think I might really be tempted.  But, I’m not sure if I am willing to take that risk!!!  Not when I have Layton around all the time to remind me of what I would most likely get!

A little sleeping angel…

Layton is so sweet when he is asleep.  In fact I think it might be the only time that I can truly say that he is sweet!

Papa and the Pool

During one of the “pool times” during the birthday party, Papa decided to make it just a little crazier.  Somehow he talked all the kids into sitting on the edge of the pool and then he would do this:
IMG_9291IMG_9292IMG_9293IMG_9294IMG_9295
And for some reason – the kids LOVED it and made Papa do it over and over and over again.
IMG_9297IMG_9298IMG_9300IMG_9322IMG_9323
And then somehow it progressed  from the kids just sitting on the edge of the pool to them standing there and things just got more and more fun!

Good times!
