Ouch!

Yesterday morning Mandy was dancing in the living room and Dallin was standing beside her goofing off.  Mandy flung out her hand in one of her dance moves and her fingernail scraped across the front of Dallin’s eye.  At first when Dallin started crying about it, I thought it would just be the usual little moment of pain and then it would pass and he would be fine.  But after a couple minutes he was still complaining about how much it hurt.  So I took a look in his eye and sure enough you could actually see a little scratch across the front of his eyeball.  Thank goodness it wasn’t bleeding or I think I would have passed out.

So we went to see the eye doctor and now he has to have drops in his eyes twice a day to prevent infection and he has to take it easy for a bit.   Which he is pretty happy about because it meant no school yesterday and no school today! Hopefully though, he should be back to normal in no time at all!  In fact he says that it is not bothering him nearly as much today, so I think it must be healing up pretty quickly.

Oh the crazy things that happen when you have kids.

Field Trip at the Diamond D Ranch

On the last day of school before Spring Break, Mandy had a VERY fun field trip to a horse and cattle ranch.  First they learned a little about the types of animals that live on the ranch.

Then they took a little nature walk that ended at the fish pond where they got to feed the fish.

And boy those were some hungry fish!

Then they took a little pony ride.  Mandy loved it :)

After that, we went on a wagon ride out to feed the cattle.

Then we stopped by the goat and emu pens to give them a treat.

And then they got to do the drum roll, which Mandy had been waiting all day to do!

It started out nice and slow.

Then went faster,

and faster!

Mandy said it was her very favorite thing.  She loved learning about how to be a cowgirl for a day!

Thanks Nana for watching Layton so that I could go!

SOOOO ready for SUMMER TIME!

My kids are so ready for summer and all the fun activities it brings.  They are so impatient to start the swimming season that they have started using the hose in the backyard to bring a little water into their lives :)

A Quiet Day at the Park

And when I say quiet, I really mean quiet!  We decided to go to the park for a picnic and a little playtime.  We were literally the only people there.  And it was a Saturday too.  Kind of surprised me!

The kids wanted it to be a “real” picnic, so I pulled out the picnic basket from the attic and grabbed a blanket.

Isn’t it a pretty quilt?  It was hand stitched by my great-grandmother, Grandma Sims.  It is crazy looking at the stitching on it.  Each stitch is so tiny and perfect. She had some serious talent.

To make packing our basket easier, we just grabbed some subs from Subway.

I know, I should have carefully and lovingly crafted each sandwich and made homemade treats to go with it (please note the heavy sarcasm) – but that is just not the kind of mom I am :)  And my kids love me for it :)

It was very yummy, quiet, and lots of fun.  We hope to do it again soon!

Gymnastics and Pretty Places

Mandy got tired of doing ballet a couple months ago and started begging to do gymnastics.  So we found a place for her and she has been loving it!IMG_3831

She is definitely very bendy!

While she goes to gymnastics, we have been spending the hour at a park along Black Creek.  And having a blast!

IMG_3539IMG_3546IMG_3563IMG_3761

It is such a pretty place.

IMG_3555

Along one of the paths, the boys found a long vine hanging down and love playing Tarzan on it.

IMG_3573IMG_3584IMG_3589IMG_3611IMG_3635IMG_3696IMG_3715IMG_3743

It also has a paved path that is perfect for running, walking, biking, and especially scooter riding.

I sure do love spending time with them!  Although, I must admit, I miss Mandy not being there with us.
