First Day of School

The day before school began we went over to the school to meet Dallin and Mandy’s teacher.

Mandy’s teacher is Ms. Ongley.  She seems like she is going to be so much fun. The very first day of class she presented them with a lab coat and Mandy has come home from school every day since then super happy and excited about school!

Dallin’s homeroom teacher is Ms. Cavins.  She teaches language arts and social studies.  Since he is starting 4th grade this year, he gets to switch classes for science and math with Ms. Breen.  I didn’t get a picture of her :(   Both of them seem so nice and so ready to push Dallin to work hard.  Which he really needs!  He told us on the second day of school that he didn’t really see the point of school anymore because he knew how to read so why did he need to learn anything else.  Gah.  We’ve got to come up with a way to inspire him to WANT to learn.  We just haven’t figured that one out yet.

They were very excited about their new outfits for the first day of school that they each got to pick out themselves.  Mandy looks beautiful in hers,

and of course Dallin had to pick out something goofy.  But at least it is a true statement – he does love bacon.  But who doesn’t?

Layton was very sad to see them go.  But he is super excited to get to start pre-k soon!

One last night of summer fun…

On the last day of “summer”, the day before school started back we decided we needed to squeeze just a little more fun in.  So we headed to the movies to see

I will be forever grateful to the guy who wrote this series of books for getting Dallin interested in reading!

Afterwards, we headed to Firehouse for subs and then for one of our favorite treats – Rita’s!

I am pretty sad to see the summer end.  It seems like it went by way too fast! 

Some days…

you just need to do a little slipping and sliding!

Pioneer Day

At the end of July we celebrated Pioneer Day.

There were water & watermelon seed relay races.

A bubble gum blowing contest.

A very fun little mercantile store.

And a talent show!  Dallin showed off his awesome hula-hooping skills.

Mandy did a little gymnastics for us.

And then with their cousins they sang a song.  We’re not really sure what the song was.  But it was pretty hilarious to watch them!

At the Movies with Friends

We took the kids to see the lastest Ice Age movie.  This picture totally cracks me up.  Harris is his own little man and I love it!

Date Night!

We’ve been pretty lucky this summer to have several date nights because the kids have spent the night at Nana’s house.  One of our favorites was simply walking out on the pier

and then along the beach,

and then seeing this enormous horseshoe crab,

and then pigging out on some giant Dagwoodesque sandwiches at European Street Café.

A Summer Day with Family

We love going to visit family – we’re just sad we have only gotten to do it one weekend this summer!  Crazy!  But in that one Saturday we packed in a ton of fun.
