Last Friday night we went to an awesome Sushi party at the Thompson's house. There were 9 families there, with a grand total of 22 children. Wild, I know. For those of us interested, Ilene taught us how to make sushi rolls. For those not really into sushi, they each just brought their own thing to eat.
I will have to admit that until recently I was not really a fan of sushi. Number 1 - raw fish. I just can't do it. Number 2 - while I like the ingredients in the cooked ones, I couldn't handle the taste of the seaweed. Now Ilene has solved my problem for me. She taught me how to make a shrimp/crab sushi roll WITHOUT the seaweed. Now I'm totally in love with it and am so glad that I can make it for myself anytime that I'm in the mood for it.
After eating, we played a game that has us all laughing and enjoying the evening. I had never played this particular game before. I'm not sure what the official name of it is, but we'll just call it the animal sound game. You have to have an even number of people and a little slip of paper for each person. On two slips of the paper you write the name of an animal, like lion, and then on the next two slips of paper you write the name of another animal, like horse, and so on. Then all of the papers are placed face down in the middle of the room. Someone yells go and then each person grabs a slip of paper and starts making the sound of the animal written there. Then you have to find the other person in the room that is making the same sound, lock arms and then drop to the floor. The two people that are last to lock arms and sit, are out. Then repeat until you have a winning pair. It was so much fun. We had people doing full on tackles and diving across the room to get to their animal match. So funny.
Looks like a lot of fun. We would've loved to have been there making the animal sounds. Too funny! You should've gotten a video of that!
ReplyDeleteMmmm...sushi!
ReplyDeleteI'm not a fan of the nori either, so I usually unroll the roll, pick it out, then eat everything else! ;) But I do like the raw fish.
BTW, you need to tell Erin and Jason that they need to start a blog! I love seeing random pictures of them pop up in your posts.
