Flag Football, Friends, and Food

I would say that those three things combined are the makings of a pretty darn near perfect day. Thanksgiving morning, we got up and headed to Omega Park to watch Nathan play flag football with some guys from church. There was a surprisingly good turnout, maybe about 20 or so guys, so it made for a very fun exciting game. Getting there at 8:00 in the morning, it was a little chilly at first, but it soon warmed up and felt fantastic outside. While there, I was talking to Kelly about our Thanksgiving meal plans and she suggested that since we both would not be spending the day with a lot of our extended family that we should celebrate the day together. So after I finished cooking all of our traditional Thanksgiving favorites (Cajun turkey, sweet potato casserole, collard greens, stuffing, and a new favorite, apple cranberry crisp) we went over to their house and combined our offerings with theirs. They introduced us to a new very delicious way of cooking asparagus, made creamy mashed potatoes, gravy, yams, turkey, and salad topped with avocado which was so very yummy. Needless to say we had a ton of food and we ate and ate and ate until we could eat no more. Dallin's new definition of Thanksgiving Day is "that day when we ate so much food and we were stuffed." We sat and just talked while the kids played and then they played a couple CD's for us and everyone danced. One of the CD's was David Archuleta's new one and believe me Archie did not disappoint. The kids had so much fun playing, but after a while Layton fell asleep and then Mandy came and curled up beside me and fell asleep too. It really was an almost perfect day. The only two down spots in the day were having to leave to come back home and the soreness that Nathan was beginning to feel from all the exertion at the flag football game. He really didn't get the full affect of the sore muscles until he woke up the next morning. He just isn't as young as he used to be and watching him hobble out of bed Friday morning made him look like a really really old man. I just had to laugh at him as he grunted and groaned. He assured me though that all the soreness was completely worth it!

Thank you Thompson family for letting us share Thanksgiving day with you and showing us all your groovy dance moves!

Our Elder's Quorom had a flag football activity (or as I like to call it- their Man Party) a few months back on a Saturday evening. It was mostly guys in their early/mid 30's.

At church the next day you could tell *exactly* who had been at the Man Party, because they were all hobbling around and complaining about sore ankles, hurt backs, etc.

I admit that I teased James for at least a week. Does that make me a bad person?? :P

Paul looks forward to the football game every year. He also normally complains about aches too but this year he didn't, but that could be because he had to work the next day and I wasn't there to hear about his aches!or maybe he knew I'd tease him about being an old man too ;)

Sounds like a blast (though we did miss seeing y'all)!
