A Real Trooper

Layton has had a cold for about a week now. Last Thursday night he became really congested and began making a barking type sound when he coughed. It sounded awful so I took him into the pediatrician on Friday morning. Apparently he has croup. I didn't really even know what that was because neither Dallin nor Mandy had ever been diagnosed with it. Croup is the child equivalent of an adult having laryngitis. His airways had become swollen and sore and so made the sound of his breathing change and gave him that barky sounding cough. So she gave me some medicine to help reduce the swelling and it seems to be helping quite a bit. It really hasn't seem to bother him though, other than occasionally having breathing difficulties during feedings, which always happens when he gets a cold. In fact he was smiling and flirting with everyone that he saw at the doctors office. I think I had three different people tell me something along the lines of, "He is just the happiest baby". Little do they know.... Truthfully though, he really is a happy baby most of the time and his crying moments are usually pretty short lived. Thank goodness he isn't like Dallin in that way!!!

Ugh! Croup is the worse. My kids have gotten it, because it is so dry out here when it gets cold, so it seems that everyone gets it out here. They say, when you hear the "seal cough" (because it sounds like a seal barking) then go to the doc! Poor Layton!
