Road Trip Adventure
After having lunch and Mandy's little birthday party on Sunday at Stacy's house, we piled into the car to head home. We knew that traffic was going to be bad because of all those headed home after the Thanksgiving holiday. I say we knew it was going to be bad, but I don't think we knew it was going to be that bad. We were only about 20 minutes away from Stacy's house when the stop and go traffic began on I-26. We figured that it must be an accident because at several points we came to a complete stop and it was rainy outside. However when we finally got up to where the traffic began to pick up pace a little bit, come to find out, the accident was actually on the OTHER side of the interstate. There was no REAL reason for us to be slowing down other than people wanting to see what was going on. GRRRRR. Anyway, we kept on going and finally made it to I-95, where again we were in the middle of stop and go traffic. As Nathan and I were discussing the possibilities of taking an exit and trying to find an alternate route, we saw his Dad shoot past us on the right hand shoulder of the road and take the nearby exit. So what did we do? We hopped off the interstate too and started tailing him. He told us a little while later that for a while he knew someone was following him but it took him a little bit to figure out that it was us. And so began our rerouting adventure. And considering who our little navigators were (don't they look like they really know what they are doing looking at those maps;) I would say that we did pretty good at only having to turn around twice due to missed roads. Did it save us any time taking all those back roads? Turns out not. Maren stayed on I-95 and got home 10 minutes before us. But considering that the whole trip turned out to be 8 hours instead of 4 1/2 like it should have been and we would have only saved ourselves a few minutes by staying on the interstate, I would say our little road trip adventure was probably a good thing for us. Heavy traffic always makes Nathan and me really frustrated. So by taking our little side route, we were able to noticeably reduce the amount of contentious feelings in the car, other than the usual "Mommy he's touching me" and "Mommy she's talking too much" that we would have heard no matter what. Besides we got to see some really pretty scenery and got the full on effect of an absolutely amazing sunset. Gotta try to look for the silver lining, right?

Oh my goodness! I had not even heard about this "adventure" yet! I am sorry! :( I don't do well in traffic either... well actually I don't do well driving anywhere (Jon usually drives). I don't know Nathan, maybe it's in the blood?
It must be in the blood - Curtis is terrible in traffic! Makes me want to jump out of the car and walk home!
Sorry you had a stinky drive home.
