Open House
Tuesday night was open house at Dallin's elementary school. His teacher sent a note home with Dallin that the kids should show up in their jammies and bring a flashlight. We arrived on time (yeah!!!) thanks to Maren being nice enough to keep the other two kiddies and also being nice enough to live right beside the school. On Dallin's desk we found his writing journal, math notebook, letter song book, and letter workbook. Dallin proudly showed off all of his work to me and Nathan and even sang a few of the songs for us. We then watched a little video presentation of the school's website and all the fun features available to parents. I LOVE how high tech schools have become. You can find out just about anything on their website about the school, activities, teaching helps, upcoming events, and even pay in advance for lunches if you so choose. After the very short presentation, Mrs. Allen's teenage daughter (that's right, Mrs. Allen even gets her own kids involved in her class) had put together a slide show of all the pictures she had taken of the kids so far this year. After air popping us some popcorn, Mrs. Allen showed us yet another cool feature on the school website where you can link to a web page that reads aloud the story and animates the illustrations of some well known children's books. Then all the kids led the parents on a scary bear hunt with their flashlights. It was a very entertaining evening. I am extremely impressed with Mrs. Allen. She is exceptionally organized and makes learning so much fun. Dallin NEVER complains about going to school and is excited to get there each morning. I am grateful that he has a teacher who is nurturing his desire to learn and helping him grow and stretch his little brain more and more each day.
