Burglarized

Saturday, Nathan decided to go out and buy some new shoes for playing basketball. I stayed at home with the kids and innocently left the garage door open. Remember, I come from a super duper small town where when we park our cars at home, we never lock them and most of the time just leave the keys in the car. And lock our house doors? Well that is just craziness. If we locked our doors, how would our second cousins 15 times removed be able to drop by and walk right in when we yell, "Doors open, y'all come on in"?

Now I am not so innocent anymore. Someone was brazen enough to walk into our open garage, while I was inside the house, and walk right out with Nathan's rather nice (and not exactly cheap) bike. Nathan came home from his shopping trip and then I go out to the garage to grab my bike to take a primary lesson to a member that lives just down the street. As I'm grabbing my bike, I realize that Nathan's bike is not sitting right next to mine like it always is. So I go ask Nathan about it and then he calls the police to file a report.

The deputy arrives (extremely promptly, which was nice) and we stand outside and begin to tell him about the bike. As we were talking this truck comes tearing down our road at way way way over the 15 mph speed limit. The deputy says excuse me and steps out into the road to wave the guy down. The guy in the truck slaps it into reverse, fishtails it backwards about 200 yards and then pulls a stunt I've only ever seen on TV and whips the truck around. The deputy jumps into his car and tears off after him. Come to find out, the guy was drunk and didn't want to get a DUI. Of course the deputy catches him and so now instead of getting a misdemeanor for driving drunk, the guy goes to jail on a felony count of evading an officer. I tell ya, these are wild and crazy times!! I know we'll probably never see Nathan's bike again, but at least us calling in the report meant that there was a deputy there at just the right time to catch a drunk driver on a street where kids play all the time. Something good always comes out of something bad right?

Aren't these pictures of Layton cute, slobber and all? I took them while we were waiting outside for the officer to return, which actually didn't happen until the following day because obviously he had to take the guy into the jail and book him. We're still in shock over the theft and the Hollywood style police chase that we witnessed firsthand.

WOW... Glad it was jut the bike and not your car or one of those Cute kiddos. What a bummer! I came home from church to have an neighbor call to tell me my next door neighbor had a police break in her front and back door?... Great! I went over to check on her and she was super afraid. Never got the reason the police came over?... This world is CRAZY!
Those photos are adorable! Think on the bright side... you got those photos out of it.
Dallin is right on... Layton is cute cause he looks just like his brother! LUCKY KID!
Maizie was on cloud nine to get her photo frame and the photos! Thank you ... so cute!

Geez, that is crazy! I can attest to the fact that people just have no morals these days. Someone totaled my car once while I was working... smashed right into it and kept on going! (Of course, that was on the West Side.) Garage theft is getting pretty big from what I've heard though.

Oh my gosh, that is crazy! We are living in terrible times and it's only going to get worse. I had a police officer come about a year ago and tell me that my cell phone had been stolen out of my car. I had been missing it for about 2 weeks and had no idea what I did with it. I thought I had left it in my car but couldn't find it. I had left it in my diaperbag and knew I had to leave early the next morning so I left the bag in the car. Evidently the Teenager that stole it got caught and told the police every car he broke into in to neighborhood. But I had left the car unlocked. (Kinda my fault I guess.) So I make sure the cars locked and doors locked when ever we go anywhere.

I am so sad that such has happened to you right in your home. Makes you want to build a fortress so nothing bad can get in. I can better understand castles now. I hope you get it back. Did you write down the serial number when you purchased it (do bike's have a serial number?) Layton is very cute...he wasn't bothered at all. It is comforting to remember that Christ has said that he will deliver his people. I love you. Mama
